Afternoon is perfect for a bike ride by the ocean. "Malecon" was just new paved, and locals love to run or walk by their Caribbean sea. Facing the ocean, great smoothies at Adrian Tropical (or sancocho, Domincan stew). The ride starts only 5 minutes away.
Treasures from the sea
"New shipwrecks museum is unique on its kind", I was told by its Spanish curator. From emeralds to cannons, there's amazing stuff inside: Museo de las Atarazanas. Amber Museum is also unique. Insects trapped in tree resin for millennials. So cool. Both walking (or bike ride) distance.
Boca Chica Caribbean beach just 25 min taxi ride. Ocean Soul gives fun surf lessons. Sporting Club is our favorite beach front restaurant, run by a established Italian guy. Best time is during the week.
Atmospheric courtyard of La Alpargateria is our favorite for evening drinks. It is actually a shoe store! Ask the owner Ricardo about the shoe handmade making process and on their premium boutiques in the city.
Explore the historic district on a stylish bike. Check below the different bike tours we have customized on Google Maps. We live here and recommend places to visit and eat. Our bikes are classic and great looking. Rental: 15 USD (3 hours) or 25 all day long.
Open air salsa
Dance salsa with locals under the impresive ruins of San Francisco monastery. Sunday from 5 Pm. Try to book your chair early. Free. Amazing mood and salsa band.
Yes, walking distance. Literally the adjacent site, find the most enchanting ruins of San Nicolás de Bari, once the 1st hospital in the Americas. Also the Cathedral, Alcazar de Colon... They are all prominent renaissance architecture celebrating austerity in stone. (UNESCO World Heritage)
Sounds perfect thing to do, right? Interesting rum making process on Sugarcane museum. They occasionally give access to their ancient underground galleries. Its chocolate version is on premium KahKow. Both walking (or bike ride) distance.
